A new actuarial reserving platform, from baseline architecture to a live quarterly cycle. Cleared Swiss Re's digital governance framework in full and released CHF 30 million in reserves in the first quarter of operation.
Enterprise architecture for insurance, reinsurance and government.
Nick Savill Consulting Limited is an independent firm providing enterprise and solution architecture services, incorporated in 2014. We work across business, data and application architecture — from operating model through to the evidence pack that carries a design past enterprise review.
We work on defined deliverables, on our own account, and we specialise in the problems where the data is genuinely difficult: handwritten registers, GP records, actuarial reserving, claims fraud.

Services
Most engagements arrive framed as a technology problem and resolve as a business one. We work down the stack in that order.
Business
Operating models, process and capability mapping, and establishing what an organisation actually does before anyone specifies a system.
Data
Data architecture, governance, MDM and migration — including the difficult end: handwritten records, clinical codes, undocumented legacy schemas.
Application
Solution architecture, integration and interface design, vendor selection, and the evidence that carries a design through enterprise architecture review.
Technology
Azure and AWS, security by design, threat modelling, single sign-on, and the practical business of making regulated systems pass compliance.
Engagements
Work contracted to Nick Savill Consulting Limited. Engagements undertaken by the principal in a personal capacity are listed separately on the principal's page.
Architecture and programme plan for the use of electronic health records in manual and automated life underwriting across Swiss Re's US operation, including a data visualiser for underwriters and the terms of reference for an OCR and NLP proof of concept.
GP records are unstructured, inconsistently coded and frequently handwritten. We built a pipeline that read them regardless, and used it to identify non-disclosure in live life policies — a global first in automated underwriting. A second engagement established the architecture for detecting fraud in health claims across emerging markets.
Following a group acquisition, Police Mutual needed a clear view of its own business and applications landscape. We modelled it, identified where structures, processes and systems could be consolidated, and reported to the board.
Our principal
The firm's work is delivered by Nick Savill, who has spent thirty-six years in IT and most of them in insurance. His full professional record — including contract roles undertaken in a personal capacity and earlier permanent employment — is set out separately, so that it is clear which work was carried out by the firm and which was not.
